Synopsis
The story revolves around "The Dogs," a gang with a peculiar set of self-imposed rules. Their rigid social structure is challenged when Kissy Ewe, an outsider with an unhygienic disposition and a desire for acceptance, attempts to join them. The Dogs are disgusted by her bad breath and lack of teeth, repeatedly rejecting her advances, which she makes through attempts to "tongue kiss" them, and they vocally express their distaste. Society's implicit or explicit disapproval of Kissy Ewe's unusual overtures leads to her complete ostracization from the gang and the wider community. This rejection prompts Kissy Ewe to open a candy business, where she creates a sour candy called "windowsuck," a poignant reminder of her failed attempt at connection. Despite the business's lack of commercial success, it becomes a meaningful endeavor for Kissy Ewe as she discovers a wounded bird outside her shop. She rescues and cares for the bird, naming it Birdie, and a profound friendship develops between them, offering Kissy Ewe solace and companionship in the aftermath of her social rejection.
