Synopsis

The tragedy of King Vannius by the renowned esotericist Guido von List is a story of love, betrayal, and heroism in times of war. Set in the first century A.D. when the Germanic tribes fought against the incursions of Rome, it tells of how the Quadi king Vannius regained the freedom of his people through cunning and strength of will, only to see his work undone by the treachery of rivals. Themes of justice, virtue and ethnic solidarity among the Germanic tribes are contrasted with the emerging decline of traditional values in Roman civilization with great subtlety and depth of feeling to make this perhaps the finest of von List's dramatic works.
