Synopsis

In The Roots Of An Old Beech Tree is a whimsical rhyming picture book about friendship, belonging and listening to your heart as well as the rewards of being brave enough to take on adventure and face the unknown. It is a jaunty poem telling the story of a young mouse named Barnaby (Barney) McGnaw who lives with his parents and multiple siblings who don't care to share with the youngest of the boys. Then one day Barney wakes up feeling something has changed, something is calling him out into the world, so that he may find a friend of his own. He leaves his home in the beech tree and ventures out of his wood and soon happens upon a seasoned traveller who offers him a lift. The two of them adventure far and wide, living under the stars and making friends wherever they travel. Time passes and Barney's heart speaks to him again as he longs for his family. Although sad to leave his new companion, Barney knows something has changed within him, he has friends now and he has joyous memories of a summer exploring the world away from his wood. He will meet his friend again, but until that time he settles back with his family who have also changed for the better in the time he has been gone.

A warm hearted children's book for 0-6 year olds.
