Il Templum Pacis: Scavi E Restauri Recenti (1998-2019)

Il volume passa in rassegna gli scavi archeologici che dal sedicesimo secolo ad oggi hanno reso possible l'individuazione e l'analisi ricostruttiva del Templum Pacis. Una particolare attenzione è dedicata agli scavi del 1998-2015 che hanno permesso di scoprire diversi ampi settori del monumento. I dati archeologici vengono utilizzati per fornire un'immagine aggiornata del Templum Pacis sia dal punto di vista architettonico che da quello funzionale. Vengono infatti affrontate varie tematiche: dalla forma dell'edificio alle sue vicende storiche compreso il suo ruolo di "contenitore" del tesoro del Tempio di Gerusalemme, sino alla presenza e alla ubicazione della celebre bibliotheca Pacis. Viene anche considerata la problematica legata all'ipotetico collegamento del complesso con la Praefectura Urbi e le sue vicende sino al medioevo. Le Appendici al volume contengono le fonti storico-letterarie riguardanti il monumento, l'analisi dei graniti delle colonne dei portici e dell'aula di Pax e il repertorio dei nuovi frammenti di Forma Urbis ritrovati negli scavi.

This volume reviews the archaeological excavations from the sixteenth century to the present day which have made it possible to identify and reconstruct the Templum Pacis. Particular attention is paid to the excavations of 1998-2015 which discovered several large sectors of the monument. Archaeological data is used to provide an up-to-date picture of the Templum Pacis from both an architectural and functional point of view. Various themes are addressed, from the shape of the building and historical events including its role as a "container" of the treasure of the Temple of Jerusalem, to the presence and location of the famous bibliotheca Pacis. The hypothetical connection of the complex with the Praefectura Urbi and related events up to the Middle Ages are also considered. The Appendices to the volume contain historical-literary sources concerning the monument, analysis of the granites of the columns of the porticoes and the hall of Pax, and the repertoire of new fragments of the Forma Urbis found in the excavations.
