Synopsis
Salome Thomas-El is a black man dedicated to changing the lives and dreams of inner city kids. Born in 1964, he grew up in the Philadelphia projects. As he was identified early as gifted', routinely shut doors were opened to him, quickly propelling him up and out. But he couldn't forget his roots, or the children of the inner city. Returning in the late 1980s to disadvantaged schools, he introduced schemes like his chess club that were hugely successful, but not enough. In the same years 20 of his students were killed. He remains and should be an inspiration to us all.'
