Synopsis

What happens when just pretending becomes real?Braham Walsh, a farmer and grieving widower, finds himself caring for his newborn son after the tragic death of his wife in childbirth. Uninterested in the matchmaking attempts from his community, he fears entering another union with someone who would resent his simple life. During a trip to the city, he encounters Rebecca Caldwell, an indentured servant fiercely protecting her younger sister from being separated at an auction. Captivated by her determination and spirit, he purchases her contract with a unique proposal: he will free her from servitude if she agrees to marry him and care for his home and child. Rebecca's life has been upended by sudden misfortune and betrayal from her family. In search of a fresh start, she signs an indenture contract to work in the colonies for five years, bringing her sister along. When Braham offers her freedom and a stable family life through marriage, she insists on his promise never to separate her from her sister. They marry before leaving the city, united by shared goals. As they begin their new life together, their bond is tested by the presence of Beauregard Williams, a man who had sought to buy Rebecca at the auction and will stop at nothing to reclaim her. Amidst this personal turmoil, the tension between colonists and British authorities escalates, bringing the threat of war closer to home with constant patrols and harassment from redcoats. Through these trials, Braham and Rebecca grow closer, discovering that their marriage of convenience is blossoming into genuine love. Their passion deepens as they face challenges side by side, forging a strong partnership built on love and trust. As they embrace their life together, they find solace in knowing they are truly free from their past constraints, their relationship evolving into a passionate partnership that transcends mere arrangement.
