Synopsis

During his studies in Marburg, Hans Jonas (1903-1993) received decisive impulses from his philosophical teacher Martin Heidegger, but no less so from the Protestant theologian Rudolf Bultmann, establishinga lifelong scholarly friendship with the latter. Hans Jonas, according to the interpretive approach proposed in this book, is part of the "Marburg hermeneutics" shaped by Heidegger and Bultmann as well as by their respective students. Following Dieter Henrich, it is conceived as a "constellation" characterized in equal proportion by affiliation and distance. Culled from an international and interdisciplinary Marburg conference, the contributions in this volume trail various traces of Marburg constellations in Jonas? thought. In this way, they open up an important chapter of intellectual history in the tradeoff between philosophy and theology.
