Synopsis

The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is the paintings conservation department of the Fitzwilliam Museum
and part of the department of History of Art at the University of Cambridge. We train students in easel
paintings conservation and also host recent graduates of conservation programmes from around the world
who come to undertake a one- or two-year internship. As ever, this issue reflects the diverse interests and
activities of our staff, students and interns as well as external colleagues with a connection to the HKI,
its collections and members. The papers discuss the treatments of paintings that have passed through
our conservation studios, artists' materials and techniques, practical methodologies, and the HKI's
archival holdings.
