Migration processes are a constituent part of socio-structural change in immigration society Europe. This puts national welfare states into question as well as traditional cultural and social affiliations. Nation states and supranational states respond to the challenges associated with international migration by stabilizing external and internal borders and policies that aim to manage immigration and integration. Such interdependent processes result in new social structures that drive social change.
