Gezimmertes Morgenland: Orientalische Und Orientalisierende Holzinterieurs in Mitteleuropa Im Späten 19. Jahrhundert

The anthology "Gezimmertes Morgenland" is dedicated to a little-researched phenomenon of the European fascination with the Orient: the so-called "Arab rooms", which found their way into numerous aristocratic residences, upper-class apartments and museums in the course of the 19th century. Eleven international experts are analyzing this phenomenon on a broad scale for the first time, not only describing individual interiors, but also recognizing reception and reproduction as a distinguishing feature of aristocratic and bourgeois representation and, based on this, using examples to identify both market-oriented interests and scientific fascination with them make all of Europe clear.
