Forgotten by God
Synopsis
From Flanders to the Great Lakes region, via Montreal and New Orleans, Father Charles Lemagie was sent to the Americas in 1854 to spread the faith. A builder of schools and churches, he did not always see eye to eye with the clergy. A chaplain during the Civil War in Confederate territory, but under the Union flag, he came under pressure from the Church. His missions were severely tested between the theory of his ministry and the harsh reality on the ground in a tense politico-religious context.
Passionate about history and genealogy, Bruno Lemagie dedicates this monograph to one of his ancestors, whom time and family memory had gradually left in the shadows. He recaptures his aura as a pioneer of the faith, always devoted but never officially recognized. In this monograph, Bruno Lemagie paints a vivid portrait. Drawing on his passion for genealogy, he offers the reader, as well as himself, a genuine encounter.
