The Etruscans have been appealing to the imagination of a wide audience and architects for centuries. Their culture's wealth, religion and nature are fascinating and amazing and have dominated Italy for almost a thousand years. Women held a special position and there is no other culture in ancient times in which women were deemed to be on an equal footing with men as with the Etruscans. The shroud of mysticism which surrounded the Etruscans has now gone. Nowadays, a wealth of information is available that can be used to reconstruct Etruscan society.
