Since the 1950s, actual political and social issues shaped the political agenda in socialist Eastern Europe. The present volume addresses issues of shared experience within East European societies and converging developments in East and West. By focussing on such realms as work, consumption, and public space, the contributions seek to explain socialist societies' functioning and to address analytical potentials of »Socialism« as a concept.
