Engaging Children: Creatively and Critically

Global neoliberal policies have resulted in a narrowing of the purpose of creativity in schools to one of developing students as human capital for the global market. Through an interdisciplinary, chapter authors in this book challenge this narrow notion and offer both theoretical and research-based support to argue the need for a much broader purpose for creativity in schools. In a truly robust democracy, our educational systems must engage children in issues that are linked to local and global issues both creatively and critically. Chapters in this volume include: creativity and policy; creativity and pedagogy; and creativity and professional development or capacity building.
