During his adolescent years, Alberto witnessed events that not only changed him, but changed the world: the bombings of a civilian population, the withdrawal of German troops from Rome, and the entrance of the American army that brought with it the end of a war and the dawn of a new world. The themes of freedom lost, the dignity of hard work, and family relationships are brought to life through this fictionalized narrative of the small town of Artena.
