Synopsis

Dunia Uwanja wa Fujo is a novel about the systemic and class conflict between socialism and capitalism in the 1960s and 1970s in Tanzania. This novel shows the efforts of the government, which wants to build a socialist society, to control the landowning class, which was seen as one of the obstacles to achieving full socialism. The novel also shows the efforts of that class to defend their property. We see how the life of a young man named Tumaini, who grew up in a wealthy family, in the middle of a village covered in poverty, intersects with the lives of other characters in a society that is undergoing major changes. Tumaini has moved to the city where he strives and becomes one of the big landowners. However, at the peak of his efforts, he loses everything, including his life. This is a novel that shows that everyone comes and causes trouble for a while and then leaves.
