Synopsis

Olwen Ellis catalogues the flaws in broken things. It's easier than cataloguing her own.

A graduate student haunted by grief and panic attacks, Olwen has spent years burying herself in the dust of an antique shop, studying other people's histories to avoid confronting her own. But when a silver mirror with a living spiral trapped beneath its glass arrives in a shipment, the elaborate fantasy world she's retreated to since childhood begins bleeding into waking life.

In Bryn Caer, she is Eira: apprentice to a wise woman, keeper of ancient knowledge, summoned by a king to protect a stone that breathes new realities into existence. In Illinois, she is Olwen: orphan, insomniac, and the last surviving member of the Ellis bloodline - a family someone has been hunting for generations.

When the boundary between worlds begins to collapse, Olwen must decide which reality to trust: the one that's breaking her, or the one that might be real.

The Awen Stone has chosen its guardian. The forces converging to claim it won't wait for her to be ready.
