Transcendental philosophy is generally regarded as a dead dog. It was torn to shreds by the discussions about 'final justification'. Deconstruction criticises that its concept of the subject is a self-empowerment that can only be countered by decentring the subject. New Realism accuses it of one-sided and untenable idealism. Against this background, Christoph Asmuth takes a fresh look at Fichte's transcendental philosophy and calls for an objective evaluation and creative further development. He discusses the aims and possibilities of Fichte's 'Wissenschaftslehre', the significance of transcendental philosophy for practical and political philosophy as well as for the philosophy of religion and epistemology.
