Synopsis

The Swiss photographer team Monika Fischer (*1971 in Rheintal, near St. Gallen) and Mathias Braschler (*1969 in Aargau) understand how to characterize people with the camera. In their much-praised book of photographs China, the two presented an expedition across the vast country, and their new project dealing with their compatriots proves to be just as multifaceted and amusing. We encounter exemplary Swiss from all regions of the country, centrally posed, such as Kurt Lauber, the caretaker of the Hörnlihütte cottage at the foot of the Matterhorn; the Dudler family, who fish Lake Constance; the Appenzell farmer Werner Meier in traditional costume driving the cattle down the mountain; or Anita Roth Reuteler, a private ski instructor in Gstaad. The volume features all of the social classes, although the photographers deliberately steered clear of celebrities: Mr. and Mrs. Switzerland say hello!
