The central focus of the publication is on the question of how specific representation strategies of the dynasty are expressed in the music and art of the Habsburg hereditary lands as well as the Bohemian countries and Hungary. With this in mind, topics and media of representation, questions about rulers, state and nation as well as networks and ceremonial spaces in their relationship to the "public" are subjected to exemplary studies. "Representation" is not a category that is considered an unchangeable quantity, but is subject to diverse processes of social and media negotiation. Their analysis can in turn make an important contribution to research into the structure of the "composite monarchy" of the Habsburg Empire.
