Synopsis

In 1931, heavy industry on the Rhine and Ruhr took over the Berlin "German Group" of the Vienna-based "Central European Business Day" (MWT). The president of the association, Tilo von Wilmowsky, was ideally suited as a protagonist of a technically and economically shaped agriculture and as brother-in-law of Gustav Krupp to forge an alliance of "knightly estate and blast furnace" and - later together with the IG-Farben director Max Ilgner and Ulrich von Hassell - Finding ways out of the German export and agricultural crisis. In 19311945, MWT contributed to the development of a large economic area run by Germany, at a distance from the racial policy of National Socialism and partly in competition with its foreign trade policy. He tried to preserve the position of "free enterprise" within the framework of an "orderly capitalism" and to improve living conditions in Southeast Europe with agricultural projects in order to create a productive sales market in the long run.
