For the first time, this publication offers comprehensive studies and materials on Swarowsky's biography, which has not yet been elucidated in many respects, and attempts to classify this iconic conducting teacher and conductor's importance in terms of performance history. Hans Swarowsky (1899-1975) belongs due to his intellectual and artistic versatility as a conductor, teacher, author and translator, due to his close relationships with key figures of 20th century music such as Schönberg, Webern or Richard Strauss, due to his work as a Conducting teacher and through his always unconventional access to questions of interpretation of the most interesting figures of recent Austrian music history.
