Deportiert Nach Mauthausen
Synopsis
For the first time, Europe in Mauthausen comprehensively presents the history of the survivors of a National Socialist concentration camp. This is based on a unique collection of over 850 biographical interviews with survivors from all over Europe, Israel, North and South America. The second volume Deported nach Mauthausen examines the way in which prisoners from numerous European countries were brought to the Mauthausen concentration camp complex. The deportations, the transfers of prisoners within the entire Nazi camp system and the death marches led to constant change in the interior of the concentration camps. Despite the omnipresence of violent death, the fates of the concentration camp inmates therefore differ considerably. The plurality of survivors' experiences and the diverse analysis approaches of the authors of this volume form the basis for a new, deeper understanding of the "prisoner society".
