The thesis by Dietrich Pietschmann (died in 1971) is the first profound historical study on a ministry such as the Prussian one, after the administrative reform by Stein has been introduced in 1806. Originally, the paper on the Prussian Ministry of Finance under Stein and Hardenberg, was accepted as a PhD thesis in 1960, supervised by Hans Hausherr. Due to the division of Germany, it had been hardly recipated by scholars - neither in the East nor in the West of Germany.
