Culture and Democracy: Anthropological Reflections on Modern India

This volume throws the spotlight on India by examining Indo-American relations since India's independence some 35 years ago. The relationship has been marked both by warmth and mutual trust and by political conflict and disputes. Some of the reasons are geo-political, but others rest on cultural differences. The goal of this volume is to pursue a cultural understanding between the two democracies.
