Alda Merini's mysticism is profoundly embodied; it renders her not more provocative, but rather more revealing and necessary. Merini's Christ is the passion of the man made word, a man whom she both loves and betrays. *Cuerpo de amor* does not permit reductive readings, instead leaving open the possibility of the most distant points of view being, in fact, the closest.
