Synopsis
Edward Burtynsky is one of today's foremost contemporary photographers. Over four decades he has created a compelling body of beautiful yet unsettling photographs that investigate the alarming extent of human impact on the environment. The printed book is a major medium for Burtynsky and Steidl has printed and published some of his most important titles over the course of more than 20 years. Classics offers the chance to acquire a set of new re-designed editions of six such books, each originally published by Steidl and long sold-out. Burtynsky's Classics are: "African Studies," depicting sweeping resource depletion in Africa; "Anthropocene," his most comprehensive book to document industrial damage to the earth; "China," showing the great economic and social transformations the country underwent at the beginning of the twenty-first century; "Oil," surveying the decade he spent exploring oil, from its manufacture to its effects on our lives; "Quarries," images of large-scale quarries Burtynsky made worldwide; and "Water," which tells the story of where water comes from, is used, distributed and wasted.
