Christliches Leben in Der DDR: Diskussionen Im Ostdeutschen Protestantismus Von Den 1950Er Bis Zu Dem 1980Er Jahren
Synopsis
Until now, research in the church history and theological thought of the German Democratic Republic has focused either on leading church representatives or on institutional aspects. This volume suggests a fresh approach in exploring the possibilities and limits of Christian life in the GDR. Christian existence in a socialist society was a key problem in the controversies East German Protestantism had from the 1950s and the Berlin Wall until the decades of detente and nuclear rearmament. The contributions to this volume include studies in less known protagonists of these debates such as Johannes Hamel and Gottfried Voigt as well as a broad spectrum of contemporary issues like the memory of Luther and questions of environmental protection and human rights.
