Bhaskaracarya's Lilavati: With the Commentary Nisrstarthaduti by Munisvara

This volume addresses a major gap in the study of Indian mathematical history by providing the first critically prepared edition of the Nisrstarthaduti, a commentary on Bhaskaracarya's 12th-century masterpiece, the Lilavati. Pandit Sudhakara Dvivedi as uttamottama—the "finest among the excellent". Despite its high reputation, it remained unpublished for nearly a century until this edition. Bhaskara II's Lilavati is a foundational treatise covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and combinatorics. It is famous for presenting complex problems in beautiful, poetic verses, often addressing his daughter, Lilavati. The authors prepared this edition using three significant manuscripts to ensure accuracy for modern scholars. It is intended to offer deep insights into the Indian tradition's philosophy of science and mathematical proofs (upapattis).
