English summary: The significance of the printing press in the history of the Reformation is widely recognized. One of the most important locations for the printing industry in Europe was Basel. Yet the city on the Upper Rhine was also essential as a meeting place and refuge and as a place from which a far reaching correspondence network spread out throughout the Reformation period. These conference proceedings document the history of intellectual development during the early 16th century. Included are contributions on Erasmus and his reception, the first anthology of Luther's works, Bucer and Oecolampadius, Beatus Rhenanus and Oswald Myconius, on the Baptists, the Italian Nonconformists and the influence of Basel on England and Hungary.

German description: Die Bedeutung des Buchdrucks fur die Geschichte der Reformation ist allgemein anerkannt. Basel zahlte europaweit zu den wichtigsten Druckorten. Aber auch als Ort der Begegnung und der Zuflucht und als Ort, von dem aus weitverzweigte Korrespondenznetze gespannt wurden, hatte die Stadt am Oberrhein in der Reformationszeit Gewicht. Dieser Tagungsband dokumentiert die Geschichte des geistigen Raums im fruhen 16. Jahrhundert. In diese Geschichte werden Beitrage uber Erasmus und seine Rezeption, uber den ersten Sammelband mit Werken Luthers, uber Bucer und Oekolampad, Beatus Rhenanus und Oswald Myconius, uber Taufer, italienische Nonkonformisten und die Ausstrahlung Basels nach England wie auch nach Ungarn einbezogen.
