Synopsis
In 1737 Poland, Count Keyserlingk's servant boy, Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, studies with Bach. The count urges him to learn a new piece every week--first, one filled with energy, then a canon, then a piece "with everything". Worried he'll fail, Goldberg turns to Bach and learns a complex composition with many variations. When the boy plays it a week later, the count is so delighted he names Goldberg the court's official harpsichordist.
