Ausdehnung Der Zeit: Die Gestaltung Von Erinnerungsräumen in Geschichte, Literatur Und Kunst

The first volume in the series Spaces of Remembrance, to which authors from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Poland and the USA contribute, lays conceptual and thematic lines for future volumes in the series. From a historical, literary and sociological perspective, the first part of the volume deals with the handling of time in the construction of memory, with the interconnection of experience, time perception and ideas about the future. A specific focus will be on conceptions of time in the fin de siècle, such as those expressed in the science fiction and culturally pessimistic perceptions of crises with regard to the future. The contributions in the second part are devoted to the dynamics of memory narratives in literature, art and photography, historiography and the public mediation of history. Specific works come into focus as well as conflicts over memory narratives in public space.
