The surgical procedure in orthopedics wherein the articular surface of a musculoskeletal joint is replaced or realigned is termed as arthroplasty. Some of the major types of procedures in arthroplasty are joint replacement, resurfacing arthroplasty and resectional arthroplasty. Joint replacement involves replacing a joint or joint surface with a prosthesis through surgery.
