Archologische Untersuchungen Im Stadtgebiet Von Antiochia Am Orontes I: Antike Und Mittelalterliche Stadtmauersysteme

Hardly any of the numerous ancient and medieval written sources fail to mention the fortification systems of Antioch. Despite their importance for the reconstruction of the city's eventful history, Antioch's fortification systems, which have been preserved over a length of around thirteen kilometres, have so far remained largely unnoticed. In the first volume of the German-Turkish undertaking in Antioch, the Roman fortifications on the two city hills, Silpios and Staurin, as well as on the plain, are presented monographically for the first time. This is done on the basis of extensive construction photographs, detailed photo documentation and taking into account unpublished excavation reports from the Princeton University Antioch Archive.
