Amphitryon, George Dandin, Ou Le Mari Confondu

Amphitryon, a subject taken from Plautus, is a mythological fantasy as lighthearted as it is immoral. George Dandin, which premiered at a lavish court show during the Grand Divertissement royal (Great Royal Entertainment) at Versailles, is a comedie rosse mocking the failure of a rich peasant who, as an aspiring social climber, hopes to marry the daughter of ruined squires.
