Synopsis

In this first omnibus collecting Rick Geary's Treasuries of Murder series, find three historical true-crime tales from the Victorian Era conveyed through Geary's pen-and-ink cartooning and frank storytelling citing contemporary accounts. Jack the Ripper covers the story of its notorious namesake's crimes, the reactions of Londoners, and investigators' attempts to pinpoint the true identity of the murderer-an ultimately fruitless venture. The Beast of Chicago delves into the history and crimes of H.H. Holmes, generally considered to be America's first (caught and convicted) serial killer, who owned a so-called "murder castle" where he victimized visitors to the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. The story of The Fateful Bullet is that of the assassination of President James A. Garfield by Charles J. Guiteau, following the diverging paths of two men with similar beginnings among the prairies of America.
