A Commentary on Procopius' Secret History

Procopius' Secret History, a unique hybrid of historiography and invective, represents one of our central sources for the so-called Age of Justinian and, more broadly, for the world of late antiquity. This first full-scale commentary places the narrative in its historical context and provides a key to understanding Procopius' complex literary strategies. It will offer scholars a much-needed basic research tool.
