At the age of thirty-eight, Chris Graham was diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer's disease that had already killed his father in his forties and put his brother in a nursing home aged forty-three. A long-serving British soldier, he'd recently discovered that his girlfriend Vicky was pregnant. He was faced with dismissal from the army on medical grounds and the terrible decision of whether to keep their unborn child, who had a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the dementia gene. After their son's birth, Chris embarked on a 10,000-mile solo cycle around North America raising money and awareness for Alzheimer's research.
